Recognizing the need for a central key to what has been done, as well as what needs to be done, in research on the teaching of foreign languages, Professor Nostrand and his associates assembled this comprehensive annotated bibliography, an earlier edition of which was published in 1962.
Since 1961 new research and significant details of previous research from all over the world have come to light. This new information, with thorough annotation, has been incorporated in a greatly enlarged and completely reorganized second edition — thus making it indispensable as a tool for researchers, language teachers, librarians, and coordinators and administrators in schools and Colleges.
The criteria for determining what new materials to include were, first, that the item reflect the procedures of modern scholarly and scientific investigation and, second, that all items appear to make a permanent contribution to the field.
